DRA 4. Distinguish Fact From Opinion at an Advanced Level

10. Distinguish fact from opinion at an advanced level.

Description

I did some timed reading last semester. Each one had a question to distinguish between fact and opinion, and I had to choose an answer within a short time. The objective is to understand the differences between fact and opinion. To distinguish between fact and opinion effectively, I also needed to develop certain skills such as reading faster. This question in the timed writing helps me to develop critical thinking skills and analyze information more effectively.

Reflection

I started to learn the differences between fact and opinion, and at first it was difficult for me because my reading speed was slow. In addition, I did not know the keywords to answer the fact/opinion question. However, as I learned, I gradually understood the differences. Facts can be proven true or false through evidence, sentences or data and are often presented using objective languages. On the other hand, opinions express a personal view, belief, or desire.

Application

This can be beneficial in terms of understanding the content of the reading and reading faster. Since I have to read a lot of texts including X-reading and timed reading, it is important to be able to distinguish quickly whether it is the writer’s opinion or a fact. Moreover, It will be very useful to develop this skill because I will have to read a large amount of textbooks for studying specialized fields after entering university.
